The system is designed around the crew's existing operational routine. Smeaton adds structure and verification before, during and after the round without turning the process into an administrative exercise.

01 / CONFIGURE

Set up the vessel

Configure the vessel timezone and operating preferences, create departments such as Deck, Engineering and Interior, then add officers and crew.

02 / CREATE

Create the route

Define the purpose of the round, its daily watch times, the permitted completion window and any reminder settings required before it begins.

03 / INSTALL

Install and register NFC checkpoints

Place approved NFC tags at accessible onboard locations, link each physical tag to its digital checkpoint and arrange the checkpoints in the intended route order.

04 / ASSIGN

Assign crew and publish the rota

Select the users eligible to perform the route, generate the schedule, review or amend the assignments and publish the final rota to the crew.

05 / START

The round becomes Ready to Start

The current scan window opens 10 minutes before the scheduled start. The assigned crew member can then begin the round within the permitted operating window.

06 / VERIFY

Physically scan each checkpoint

The crew member walks the vessel and taps each required NFC checkpoint. The platform records the checkpoint and the time it was physically attended.

07 / REPORT

Record what was found

If a problem is discovered, crew can report it at the checkpoint with written detail, required answers and photographic evidence linked to the round.

08 / COMPLETE

Complete the round and retain the evidence

The resulting operational record connects the schedule, responsible person, checkpoint attendance, timing, issues and final round outcome for later review.

Smeaton's defining difference is the connection between the digital round and a physical point onboard the yacht. The crew member cannot simply tick a remote checkbox; the mobile device must interact with the NFC checkpoint.

The platform supports secure NTAG 424 DNA verification, allowing the backend to cryptographically validate supported tags and protect against simple replay of old scan data.

The right round, at the right time.

Smeaton checks whether the scheduled watch is currently available before normal crew execution can begin. The current operating window opens 10 minutes before the scheduled start and remains available until the route's configured completion window closes.

This keeps the round linked to the intended watch rather than allowing unrestricted scanning at any time of day.

A problem should create evidence, not punish inspection.

If crew discover something damaged, missing or otherwise requiring attention, they can flag the checkpoint during the round and attach supporting detail.

The issue remains associated with the checkpoint, round and person who discovered it so management can later understand the operational context.

Superyachts operate in places where reliable connectivity cannot be assumed. Smeaton caches the operational information required for assigned rounds and can temporarily queue evidence locally until the device reconnects.
